Laser Marking

Since 2007, we have been equipped with a TRUMPF VMC1 ( Nd:YAG) marking/coding laser for plastic parts (maximal marking size: 120x120mm).
This laser technology which meets the highest quality requirements is designed for four different types of applications:

  • Discoloration marking:
    The laser beam interacts with pigments previously added to the masterbatch. The colour of these pigments will change, turning most of the time black or grey. This phenomenon allows to mark easily readable and indelible data.

  • Ablation marking process:
    This type of marking refers to the evaporation removal of a topcoat (generally painted) which covers the part to be marked. Revealing portions of bare parts (translucent or of a different colour from the topcoat) allows to create a contrast
    Most common application: to locate control buttons regardless of the light intensity outdoors.

  • Laser engraving:
    This technique is useful for non-pigmented plastics. It allows a deeper marking following the melting or the evaporation of a portion of the material through beam intensity. 

  • Laser coding :
    The requirements related to the products traceability and/or authentication requires more and more data coding (batch numbers, barcodes, datamatrix, etc.). The laser solution offers many advantages such as low prices, high throughput, reliability, capability, etc. not to mention the huge amount of coded data and the multiplicity of plastic materials that may be used.
